July 2023 – T-Mobile is partnering  with JerseySTEM as part of the technology giant’s ongoing commitment to diversity and reducing the STEM education gap. As a sponsoring partner, T-Mobile is helping JerseySTEM bring Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education to middle school girls in underserved communities throughout New Jersey.

The T-Mobile Foundation granted $5,000 to JerseySTEM for the spring semester in 2023. The grant allowed JerseySTEM to run a 10-week after school program at Robert Treat Academy in Newark, NJ. The students were instructed by a college student volunteer who guided the eager participants through several coding projects, including the development of a mental health app to connect online with therapists, and an app to store pet medical records. They not only showcased their technical skills but also learned valuable lessons in project management, user experience, and website development.

In addition to funding the after school program, T-Mobile hosted a STEMTalk, a conversation between professionals and students. After the students presented the results of their coding project and T-Mobile provided feedback, the engineers received an enthusiastic response from students when they discussed T-Mobile’s commitment to connecting communities via “Project 10 Million”. In three years since its foundation, the project has connected more than 5.3 million students to the internet.

T-Mobile hosted a STEMTalk where students received feedback from the engineers on their coding projects.
